Space Ship Two Flight Path

Space Ship Two Flight Path

Virgin is that much closer to a full fledged commercial space flight having completed a successful test of their Space Ship Two.  The craft remained in Earth’s atmosphere for this trip but success here assures we will soon hear news of Space Ship Two taking the big leap.  Here is the press release with all the nasty details:

It’s becoming clear that as many Sci-Fi works have foretold, the private sector, commercial entities will lead the way in our forays into space.  Immense sums of money and freedom from the fetters (read ethics) of government control will surely push the boundaries of what is possible in space travel.

You may remember that James Cameron invested in a venture to mine Asteroids on the heels of his film Avatar.  It seems the loss of NASA has only emboldened the private sector.  Things like the X-Prize set great wheels in motion.  NASA seems to have definitely achieved the aim of firing our imaginations, if nothing else.   Of course, there is much more they have achieved and we have learned from NASA missions.  And when I see “we” of course I don’t mean “us”, just the collective scientific mind if you will.

It is really Launcher One that is the business here.  The Launcher is key.  What you launch into space is academic… to a point.  You of course have to create a craft that is not only safe but somewhat comfortable since paying civilians are the payload instead of trained Astronauts.  Not to mention that we’re talking about Virgin here, so it’s going to have some poshness.  This is no doubt a bit more difficult than just shooting cargo into space.

At any rate, it would seem that Virgin Galactic could make a good deal of money just having passengers onboard Launcher One.  I believe it soars high enough to get the average (wo)man that much closer to space than they could ever imagine and I’d hope at a much lower price tag.

As we say at dotunuk, “the future is now.”

So that first Metal Gear and all that stuff about DARPA?  Makes you think.

So before you try to go all Jay-Z on your next traffic stop, Caleb Mason, Associate Professor of Law at Southwestern Law School, has broken down Jay-Z’s black smuggler’s anthem verse by verse.  Well the second verse, which is the one that matters in this case.

This is a very fascinating law brief and it is a lot of fun.  But a lot of it I think you know, just by dealing with the cops and watching cop shows.  But this brief gives you the details.

But Dotunuki can tell you this much, if you are going to live the life of crime and you DON’T like jail, the first thing you should spend ill gotten gains on is a Lawyer.  That right there, is pretty much the key.  The rest is, whatever.

Jay-Z teaches, keep a cool hand, Luke.  Play your cards, don’t volunteer anything.

But I’ve kept you long enough, read this PDF.

No Holds Barred

“So do the girls really get molested on the trains, or are they getting straight up raped?  I mean these are the things a man wants to know when he enters a foreign country.  Come on Fidel, let me know what’s happening.”

“These are more the things American men want to know when they enter a foreign country and I don’t know for sure, both I think.  The times I’ve been here, I’ve basically stuck to the hotel and maybe seen a sight or two.”

“You’ve had that girlfriend of yours you’re always talking about.  That’s cool, I’m just glad you don’t talk about her in a mushy kind of way, it’s always, ‘Marge says, you should never do this, or Marge once said, ‘To jump from a tree is nonsense,’ stuff like that.  What is she some kind of Buddhist or something?

“She’s Italian.”

She older’n you?”

“Yeah, Jody… actually she is.”

“By how much?”

“Seven or eight years I think.”

“Got that older woman action going, you know what’s up, got her turning you out and stuff,” Fidel rolls his eyes, in his small brown head with coffee mug ears, at Jody’s comment.

“It ain’t like that, she’s just a girl like any other girl, you can’t tell nothing by looking at her.  We look the same age or whatever; besides ages ain’t got no specific look to them unless you’re talking 60 –70.”  Jody throws a smirk from his low browed, Pollack nosed, Michigan, wrestler, gnarled face.

“I don’t know, I think maybe 40… but people generally just look old or young, you’re right about that; some old smoker who is addicted to tanning can look 20 years older than she is you know?  But you never showed me no picture of this girl.”

“I don’t carry one.”

“You ain’t got no picture of your girl?”

“Naw.”  Jody stops walking.

“Why not?”

“She just ain’t got none, really.  I never asked for one and neither of us really care.”  Jody looks at Fidel closely for a moment the shadowy sockets of his eyes grow deeper as he seems to be in consternation.  Then he has it.

“Don’t want nobody seeing your girl and trying to get with her—oh no!  You don’t want none of the guys jacking off to her, cause you know, I think that girls can sense that.  Come on let’s go.”  Fidel thinks about reasserting the truth of the matter of the picture, but figures if this will finish the conversation and get it off of his girlfriend, then fine.

The fact of the matter was, they were approaching a busier section of the city and Fidel didn’t want this conversation to take place in front of people.  Especially the bit about the molestation; in Fidel’s case, this was decorum gone wild because they were in Japan after all, and most people probably couldn’t understand what they were talking about.  However, you don’t need to speak a language to read the body signals of a huge, horny, American Shoot fighter, which is what Jody was.  Jody’s body has so much testosterone involved with it, that his sweat could make a girl pregnant, obviously the product of self-medication.  Fidel on the other hand was just the opposite, short, skinny and unassuming.  Those are the hard qualities.  The soft qualities are tough, driven, strong, and patient, these are the qualities that have contributed to his success in Shoot fighting.

I believe the theme was cultural models.

“If you allow us to execute one man, gas will be free for 5 years.  Do we have your blessing?”  This question has never been posed but had it been, I suspect many would issue one answer from their mouth and hold another in their head.  Morals and ethics are little more than something to argue about, i.e. they exist in degrees.    Good and bad are ambiguous and challenging people’s perceptions of them is extremely taboo.

Take for instance the Star Wars movies where the rag tag rebels are the protagonists and the empire is the antagonist.  However, this same scenario is playing out at present, third world (rag tag) countries rebelling against the first world (empire), but you’d be hard pressed to find many Americans who would see the rag tag as the heroes.

Ironically, we do not identify ourselves with the empire.  The Death Star destroyed by a small projectile fired into an exhaust shaft, about as low tech as flying a plane into a building.  Ethics and morals reside within the structure of every society but this fact seems to elude the majority.

Religion is an institution, which has strengthened the field of morals.  Morals are to religion as culture is to anthropology as technology is to science.  Dualism and the creation of a Satan as a mascot for morals and ethics, for Satan is presented as the one who can offer all the worldly pleasures if only you will drop your morals.

At present, the controversy of stem cell research, which seems to be a ‘no-brainer’ in the cause of curing many ailments is stifled by a moral argument rooted in religion.  Thus creating an argument pertaining to the ‘beginning’ of life and when we are we free from moral obligation or when our moral obligation begins.   Yet, the fate of full grown and productive life is held in relatively low regard when one considers the practice of capital punishment.  When arguments begin debating what is right and what is wrong and the result is: there is no right and wrong only the perception.  I believe our (human) behavior, as a whole, sum total, will result in one of two possible global outcomes.

These dual outcomes are like a football game where each team has two possible outcomes win or lose.  Winning and losing a football game is good or bad depending on which side you are on.  Perception.  What is endemic to human life is the way in which the game is played and within the paradigm of the object of the game.  The object of the game is to outscore the opponent by moving forward until you penetrate the opposing teams territory more times than they do yours.  However, whether you win or lose, both teams will have at one point advanced and regressed until one of the two outcomes is reached.  Nevertheless, when the time comes that it is evident one team will lose there is nothing physically stopping that team from giving up.  Why then is this something we rarely if ever see?

Even though one team wants to defeat the other or one team wants to liberate themselves from the oppression of the other it can only be achieved by themselves becoming the oppressor.  The difference is the point of view.  For, the team that wins does not see themselves as the oppressor (bad).  Both teams praying to God to grant them victory over the other best illustrate this.  I believe there exist one global ‘culture of dominance,’ it is the ‘invisible culture’ whose alternative is the global ‘culture of non-dominance.’  However, in this time, on this planet, humans have chosen, through action and idea, the culture of dominance and it must play through to the end.  Though, near the end, it may be recognized for what it is but it will make no sense to derail it.  I’m not going to speculate how a ‘culture of non-dominance’ would operate because I think it can only be determined while in practice.

These thoughts and ideas were inspired by my readings of  D’Andrade also Cornel West.

YOU COULD'VE DONE THAT ON YOUR OWN, DUMMY!

THIS IS THE REALM OF THE LIVING

ALL YOU CAN DO IS SEND YOUR SELF TO THAT OF THE DEAD

YOU CALL THAT WHICH NEEDS NO CALL

FOR IT SEEKS OUT THE WEAKMINDED AND WICKED

IT NEEDS NO ENCANTATION

YOU CALL WHAT IS ALREADY IN CONTROL OF YOU

AND IT CALLS FOR YOUR SOUL

AND ALL YOU TAKE

MAKES IT LAUGH ALL THE HARDER

FOR IT IS TAKING A PIECE OF YOUR SOUL IN EXCHANGE

AND YOU WILL PRAY THAT SOMEONE WILL RENDER A TERRIBLE IMAGE OF YOU

SO THAT YOU CAN CONTINUE TO PURSUE FAME

FOR FAME FOR THE LIVING IS AS FAME FOR THE DEAD

FLEETING AND WORTHLESS

AND ONLY CALLS YOU TO ITS BIDDING TO PERFORM

A LITANY OF URBANE TASKS

AND IF YOU SO DESIRE TO BE AT THE BECK AND CALL OF

SOME COWARD WHO CANNOT ATTAIN EVEN THE SIMPLEST THING FOR THEMSELVES

CONTINUE ON YOUR PATH

FOR THERE ARE MANY WONDERS ON THIS EARTH

MANY FORCES AND POWERS

BUT THERE ARE ALSO RULES

AND LIES

AND YOU WILL HAVE YOUR SUICIDE ATTEMPT

SO THAT YOU MAY GET A QUICK GLANCE AT WHAT IS YOUR FUTURE

AND YOU WILL BE TORMENTED IN THIS LAND OF THE LIVING

UNTIL YOU SEEK ONLY DEATH

WHICH YOU SHALL NOT FIND

TURN BACK NOW

FOR THE FINAL CONFLICT APPROACHES.

IF YOU FIND THAT YOU ARE IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH DEMONS

THAN YOU ARE ONE CHOSEN TO DRIVE THEM OUT

AND KEEP THEM WITHIN THEIR BOUNDARIES

THAT IS, IF YOU WOULD LIKE THEIR RESPECT.
